Uterine Fibroids

Twenty to 80% of women develop uterine fibroids by age 50 as a result of hormonal changes or genetics. These muscular, often non-cancerous tumors can put pressure on the bladder, contribute to heavy menstrual periods, can affect fertility, and cause pelvic and/or lower back pain, though oftentimes uterine fibroids cause no symptoms. Many times, women who have a family history of fibroids, African American women, obese women, and those who eat an abundance of red meat experience uterine fibroids.

If your fibroids cause nagging or painful symptoms, Dr. Holt's Frisco gynecology office can address your needs with standard and proven treatment options. She may prescribe medications or recommend surgery, based on your symptoms and examination. Currently, medical science is exploring these not-yet-standard treatments for uterine fibroid treatment: ultrasound surgery, laser surgery, anti-hormonal drugs, and other medications.

Call our office to schedule your appointment if you experience uterine fibroid symptoms. We serve patients from McKinney, Little Elm, Celina, Plano, and Prosper from our comfortable, conveniently located Frisco OBGYN office. We can't wait to meet you!
