Women between the ages of 42 and 56 experience a period in life known as menopause. During this natural and expected phase of life, a woman's menstruation ends. Menopause occurs when the ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone, and it results in the inability to become pregnant.
For several years before the onset of menopause, women may experience perimenopause. During this period, symptoms including weight gain, hot flashes, insomnia, night sweats, vaginal dryness, fatigue, memory problems, mood swings, and other women's healthcare issues may arise. In most cases, symptoms subside or end when menopause is complete. Ovary removal, chemotherapy or radiation, or ovarian malfunction can induce menopause.
If you experience menopausal symptoms or think you are in perimenopause, Dr. Holt will help you manage your symptoms. Hormone therapy, education, diet, and support may help you adjust to this period of life.
